I Prefer Winter
As the winter nights draw in
I’m happy.
I listen to birds sing
Watch my TV and listen to
A fire engine going off.
I wake at 7
Have a cup of coffee and a shave
And an injection at a quarter to 8.
I don’t sweat as much in the cold.
On winters mornings I go to work at Oxfam menswear
With my coat open.
I used to work unloading frozen meat.
