"We enable people to tell their stories"

Company Associate: John Hegley

We are a Charity that listens to people and helps them to understand their own story and develop positive identity. We do this through projects involving creativity, writing and performance. For 20 years we have led projects with children in care, youth groups, and people with mental health issues, producing plays, comedy, books and radio.

Young People try new foods in Lockdown

In March 2020 we began food deliveries for young people (and sometimes their families) in need, as our cooked meals for young people at Wednesday drop-ins had to stop. We now deliver past-use-by-date food, donated by Tesco Superstore, Shoreham and the Ham Rd Co-Op, across the Adur District. Young people are trying out an array of different fruit, veg and speciality bakery!

With emergency funding from National Lottery Awards for All and National Heritage.

Young People make a Film about Geocaching

14 to 24 year olds from the 'Rally' Project Wednesday night drop-in recently made this entry for the International Geocaching Film Festival (less than 4 minutes). Sadly it wasn't a finalist, but it's a great record of their activities.

Messy Art

A day for young people aged 11 to 18 with special educational needs and disabilities. This art room idea is a collaboration with artists Malcolm Buchanan Dick and Jeremy Cross.

Jess, age 13, commented: "My main memory will be the paint spraying, the paint swinging, and the room full of colours."

The 'Rally' Project for young people

The 'Rally' Project for young people

This year we are running a weekly youth night for young people in Shoreham, and working in partnership with Sussex Wildlife Trust, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, to support young people to run activities in the Adur river and South Downs area.

Ryan comments: "These are photos of our walk in the bluebell woods, to the north of Steyning, off Spithandle Lane. The woods are amazing this year, and I recommend it to anyone, especially if you are angry or upset. Particularly with friends."

Adur In Action: A Portrait of Voluntary & Community Life

This year we wrote and presented this 15 minute film about Adur District's community and voluntary groups, which would be especially useful for anyone thinking about volunteering, or who is coming to West Sussex for the first time.

Workshops

This year we are leading workshops with adults and young people. We worked recently with the Children's Commission on a multimedia day with children from all over England.

Avoiding Blame

We recently took on the subject of 'blame'. How can we get around, over, under or just turn away from this state? We are running drama and life story workshops with children in care and children excluded from school. At the same time we devised a new stage drama called 'Flight Risk' which explored this theme with 3 professional actors.

The Generation Game

See Listen Again for clips from our partnership with BBC Radio Sussex in 2014, which includes many wonderful conversations and bits of sage advice on communication between generations. Funding for this project came from National Lottery Awards for All, Sussex Community Fund and the Foyle Foundation, and enabled a range of people to take part in the project who might not otherwise been able to do so.
